ISWA serves Washington students in grades K鈥�12. Our career and college prep program is open to high school students.

ISWA is a public school, so there is no tuition. We provide Washington-certified teachers and instructional materials. Students and families will be responsible for providing some common household materials (such as printer ink and paper). Families who qualify receive a loaner computer and printer. Our enrollment consultants can help address your technological and computer questions and needs.

English/language arts, math, science, and history are core courses. There are also other courses in the appropriate grade levels, such as art, health/PE, music, and world languages. High school students also have access to electives and career-focused courses.

Yes. We provide the textbooks and instructional materials needed to complete the program. These books and materials are sent to students directly. The amount and type of materials varies by grade and course. Generally, high school students receive fewer books and materials than middle school students due to the different course requirements. Common household items and office supplies like printer ink and paper are not provided.

The elementary program is self-paced and flexible within the parameters specified by state law. Middle school and high school students complete lessons in synchronous and asynchronous sessions and are expected to complete, quizzes, tests, and other assignments in a timely manner.

ISWA provides qualified families with a loaner computer. A parent or guardian (Learning Coach) must submit financial documents to prove their student’s qualification when they request a loaned laptop.

When the Learning Coach (parent or legal guardian) requests a loaner computer, they must provide financial information during the registration process to determine their student’s eligibility.

If a family requests a laptop and is eligible, the Learning Coach may check their “My Info” tab two days after their student has been approved for enrollment with ISWA. If no status is listed, the laptop has not shipped and will not ship. The Learning Coach must contact Customer Support at 866.512.2273.

Please note, if a family does not financially qualify for a laptop, it will not ship even if they have submitted a request. Appeals may be submitted to hardware@k12insighwa.org.

Chromebooks are not compatible with our systems.

We expect that students will spend no more than 15 to 30% of their school time on the computer in grades K鈥�5, 50 to 70% in grades 6鈥�8, and 80+% in grades 9鈥�12. We believe in a balanced approach toward education. Computers help us provide you with effective assessment, planning, and time-management tools. Computers also act as powerful teaching tool that can motivate, stimulate, and inform children about the world around them. They do not, however, replace a solid education. Rather, they help facilitate one. That鈥檚 why we use a unique multimedia approach that also includes traditional books, workbooks, and instructional materials.

Students admittance is subject to capacity and the age and state residency requirements listed below.

Students must be residents of the state of Washington. Kindergarten students must be five years of age on or before August 31st of the current school year.

High school students must be 20 years of age or younger on the first day of the school year. Students who turn 21 while enrolled may remain enrolled until the end of the current school year. High school students must also be able to demonstrate completion of the eighth grade through official transcript or homeschool portfolios.

We are a school of choice, so enrollment documents include a District Release Form (sometimes called a 鈥淐hoice Form鈥�), which is requested through your resident school district.

You will also need to submit a utility bill (gas, water, cable, electric, phone landline) to show proof of residency.

ISWA specializes in addressing the needs of struggling students. Beginning with your child鈥檚 teacher, there are several avenues of support at ISWA. The ISWA team proactively works with students and Learning Coaches to provide timely intervention when students are falling behind.

In collaboration with the student and Learning Coach, we develop a high school and beyond plan for each student in grades 8鈥�12 to ensure students have a roadmap to success that鈥檚 specific to them.

ISWA offers enrollment opportunities throughout the year. Elementary and middle school students are on a semester calendar, while high school students are on a trimester calendar.

Students can submit an enrollment application anytime during the year. Once approved, they can begin attending classes at the next scheduled start date. These start dates vary by grade level. Students should remain enrolled in their current school until their start date at ISWA to avoid attendance and truancy issues in the state of Washington.

We will review each case based on records from your current or former school district. As a Washington public school, we may honor current expulsions from another district.

Depending on a child’s Individualized Education Program, we can tailor learning to meet your student鈥檚 needs. To discuss your child’s needs with us, please contact our office and we will put you in touch with our special education team.

Throughout the year, students will be invited to participate in school outings, field trips (e.g., to historical sites, museums, zoos), picnics, and other social events. In addition, local groups of students and parents can get together on their own. The family directory provides a way for families to network with other families in their region of the state.

There are no home visits as part of the program and no other intrusions into your home.
